Maddie Gerig Shelly

Beginning therapy, wherever you are on your healing journey, is challenging and brave work. I draw on person-centered psychotherapy and methods of mindfulness, internal family systems therapy, and art therapy to help you become attuned to your emotions, body, and authentic self. I’m committed to helping you process your family and generational history, and explore how systems of oppression may impact your story. I will honor your complexity and accompany you at your own pace.

I am experienced working with individuals across the lifespan including young children, adolescents, and adults. In my work with children, I delight in engaging in play and creativity, letting young people show me their inner world, helping them build on their strengths to regulate emotions and communicate their needs to caregivers. I specialize in treating trauma survivors, mood and anxiety disorders, and people undergoing life transitions and identity exploration. I graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and art therapy. I completed my clinical training at the Yale School of Medicine’s Child Study Center and the YWCA Sexual Violence Support Services. I completed additional trainings in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sexual Violence Counseling, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
